Arrest and Killing of Civil Right activists is murder of democracy: SIO

New Delhi (14 May 2009): Arrest and Killing of Civil Right activists is equal to murdering democracy… said Suhail KK, President, Students Islamic Organization of India (SIO) in a press statement. He was addressing Raipur satyagrah at Chahtisgarh  on the occasion of two years of illegal detention of noted civil right Activist Dr Binayak Sen. "Good Work-Bad Reward" has been unfortunately the most saddening part of Indian democracy. Despite Binayak Sen's remarkable services to the poor and tribal of Chhattisgarh, he was arrested by misusing Chhattisgarh Special Public Security Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act by the state Government. The court has neither granted him bail nor even allowed for a medical treatment. He just spoke out bravely against the State Violence by which hundreds of Innocent people were killed. In the same way Lalit Kumar Mehta, Advocate Noushad, Satyander Dubey and Manjonath, have been brutally murdered a different occasion all this people were victim of this hunting.

Expressing his deep concern over these issues, Mr Suhail KK said that all these incidences clearly show that the democratic rights of individuals are hampered when it come to questioning injustices in society. The role of State in this story is more saddening. India has emerged on the global front for the misuse of office by Police and the State. The freedoms to express and act and right to question are being violated by State itself. This will lead to a very unhealthy, undemocratic and passive society. Moreover it may discourage the spirit of Constructive and Social Work especially among the new generation. He demanded that urgent medical care must be given to Dr Sen and he must be released as soon as possible.

A rally also have been organized at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi on the same issue Different students organization and human right groups representatives were also present on the occasion AIISA state secretary Mr. Rajan, DSU president Ms. Banojyotsne    and social worker Mr. Satya Sargam and Mr. Azharuddin National Secretary SIO of India also shared their views demanding the urgent release of Dr. Binayak Sen. A beautiful plot in which democratic values have been jailed was part of the rally

Secretary, SIO of India
